A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches in width consisting of three semi-circular maroon discs conjoined one above two, the upper portion of the device within a narrow border of gold rays. Centered vertically upon the disc a gold sword with hilt at top and blade extending to base and entwined by a narrow riband of three coils of white, red and white, and all centered between two red crosses at base. The lower portion of the device is bordered with a gold scroll inscribed HEALTH IS OUR CONCERN in maroon letters.
The maroon and white used throughout are the colors of the Army Medical Corps. The three circles within three circles denote the units numerical designation 331, with the sword representing the number one. The sword with the point down also represents the wounded or ill soldier and the red and white riband circling the blade is suggestive of bandaging and the stain of blood. The red and white stripes are also adapted from the barber pole, once the symbol for the surgeon. The two red crosses commemorate the units two campaign credits (Rhineland and Central Europe) in World War II. The gold rays extending from upper portion of the device denote the hope and assurance given to the soldier for his recovery.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 3 July 1986.
